Higest Fiber Kids Cereals
It is well documented that a diet high in dietary fiber is good for you and your family. Many sources discuss getting dietary fiber from fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Fiber passes directly through the stomach and small intestines and into the colon, bulking up one’s stool – keeping you regular.
Breakfast cereals can be a good start to the days dietary fiber intake as they generally contain significant levels of fiber in the form of whole grains. This can be the case if you choose the right cereal.
Of the 21 kids cereals found in the FoodEssentials database compared by fiber levels, none of them contained a level of fiber classified as “High in Fiber”. According to the FDA guidelines products with more than 5g of fiber per serving, this equals approximately 16g per 100g. The highest fiber kids cereal, Annie’s Bunny Love and Cinna Bunnies, had fiber levels of only 10g per 100g.
The top 4 cereals in this list can be classified as being “good sources of fiber” as can be stated according to the FDA guidelines – products with between 2.5g – 4.9g of fiber per serving. This is the equivalent of 8g – 15.9g of fiber per 100g. The majority of cereals in this list fall below the “good sources of fiber’ category. Other categories of cereal such as Bran Cereals, Wheat Cereals and Oat Cereals have considerably higher levels of fiber than can be found in Kids Cereals. You can find this information and much more in the FoodEssentials comparison tool widget.
To put this in to perspective, a small serving (30g) of the highest fiber cereal would give you 3g of fiber which ends up being 12% of your Reference Daily Intake (RDI) for fiber of 25g per day based on a
2000 calories a day diet for adults and children over 4. So, unless you’re supplementing breakfast with some additional fruit or vegetables you really aren’t providing your child with enough fiber in that one particular meal.

An interesting Article. I like the way that you’ve broken down actually how much fiber 10g per 100g is. Otherwise I would not have known if that was high or not. The list is going to help with the shopping. Thanks. keep it up.
