What's the sence of making a high fiber cereal and then LOADING IT UP WITH SUGAR !! Are there any sugar-free, high fiber cereals out there. I'll figure out hot to make it edible, like adding fresh fruit and sugar-free yogurt.

As a Medical Astrologer, it is my civic responsibility to educate the public on the importance of diet and nutrition, along with food labeling because it does play a difference, believe it or not, on people's health. Opening up the internet study to the general public, allowing them to participate in the study, will, not only win the trust of the public (and that in itself is very poweful!) but also increase the health index of our current society as a whole.

Hi Jane,

We definately sympathise with you position, we often get comments from people in a similar position to yours. Unfortunately, it is beyond our scope to provide advice on these matters beyond suggesting that you see your local allergist - who should have more specific knowdedge on the subject than a GP. You can also get more info from the <a href="http://foodallergy.org" rel="nofollow">Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis network (FAAN)</a> who are a great team of people focused on providing people in your situation with great advice. They can also help you to identify your closest allergist.

We wish you the best of luck and hope you find <a href="http://foodessentials.com" rel="nofollow">foodessentials.com</a> a helpful resource for locating calcium Propionate free foods.

Thanks for your post Michelle,

This is in fact a very interesting point. We're not in a position to add to much more to the questions you raised but we are aware that there are several studies that do consider the mix of ingredients. One study undertaken in the UK in 2007 explored the relationship in childrens behaviour when consuming a mix of sodium benzoate and certain colors (<a href="http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1659835,00.html" rel="nofollow">click here for a related TIME article</a>) . Their findings concluded that certain mixes influenced behavior in children.

So you do raise a very good point. Thanks again for your comment.

Hi,
I am currently searching the web for information just like this! I am, I think, one of the members of that minority whos body does not agree with Calcium Propionate (E282) in certain foods. I break out into a red itchy skin rash requiring medication. I have only just developed this "intollerance/allergic reaction" (I don't know which it is but I know there is a difference) in the past 4 years and I am 29. I have been keeping a food diary and have been on a restrictive detection diet the past 3 months and after obtaining ingredients lists from airlines, retail food outlets and international companies, the preservative 282, otherwise known as Calcium Propionate is the only real common element in all my triggers so far.
From what I can gather it is an accumulative mineral salt which may not trigger a reaction every time you eat it if the levels within your body are not high enough but it can be that one piece of toast from the same loaf of bread that you ate yesterdat that sets you off today. Which makes detecting it as a dietary problem difficult.
ANY information as to why I/people react, why this can take so many years to develop, how it can be treated etc - or whether I am being mislead by dieticians and online research - is greatly appreciated as I am learning a lot as I search about something that has baffled all the medical doctors I have been to for a few years now.
Thanks! :(

Hi,

I just came acroos this article as I was preparing to stick a frozen pizza in the oven and noticed this "Calcium propionate" ingredient in my pizza. I usually read the labels nut I must said I don't recall hearing about it before. I have to mention that I am not very well educated in this subject, but when you both mentioned citric acid intolerance and calcium propionate intolerance for a small group of people, eventhough, both are found in our bodies, it just came to my head an idea I been pondering for a while, what if we are not allergic to it as a natural recurrence but only when it is synthetic or mix with other ingredients. Often studies refer to individual substances but not to the implications of the same when mix others.

Thanks

Thanks for your note Lucas,

Over the next month or two we are going to be adding a lot of functionality. We are starting by launching a new search mechanism in a week or two that should help you to find the products that your looking for much quicker. And then we're looking to add the ability to save shopping lists, as well as some power search functionality and ability to build profiles.

If you have any suggestions for particular functionality please feel free to drop us your suggestions at info@foodessentials.com

Thanks again for taking the time to comment.
