Diet Tip: More Protein – Fewer Pounds!

Protein is the component of food your body uses to build and repair muscles and organs. You also need protein to make the antibodies that are an important part of your immune system. While most foods contain at least a small amount of protein, the foods with the most protein include animal-based foods, nuts, seeds and legumes. The standard recommendation is that protein should make up about 10 to 20 percent of your daily caloric intake, along with 50% of your calories from carbohydrates and the rest from fat. However, some scientists believe that choosing more protein and less fat can make weight loss easier.
A high protein diet is not the same as a low carb diet, where dieters dramatically decrease the amount of carbohydrates they consume (although those carbohydrates are frequently replaced by more protein). This is good because it allows for healthy amounts of fiber-rich fruits, vegetables and grains. Read more

Start Every Day with a Healthy Breakfast

Studies show kids who eat breakfast consistently perform better on cognitive tests than kids who skip their morning meals. The type of breakfast matters too.
